Ramadan Musings

Ramadan is on its 15th day. In a few weeks we will be in Taiping for raya. All the weight loss will be re-gained then. Have not bought any new clothes. Sarah will wear the purple baju kurung that she wore for Irene's wedding while Reza will wear the baju melayu that was made for Irene's engagement. They may or may not wear their outfits. As for me, maybe a blouse and a pair of trousers from Ms Read warehouse. No baju kurung for me, not if I can help it. It is not because am shunning my culture, merely for practicality. Opah's (Reza's grandma) house has poor air circulation so wearing a baju kurung is an invitation to being all hot and bothered the whole day. That is why we do not like to wear baju kurung and baju melayu during hari raya. In this case, I better buy Sarah and Reza some new clothes as well then.

Raya cookies...I hate them. Everyone's houses has jars and jars of them. The jars are all in matching motifs. Why? I go to a person's house expecting a full meal not cookies. I hate that there are gazillion types of them come this festive season and the hosts will take offense if you do not eat some. However, I make an exception for Mak Long's pineapple tarts - hers are to die for. It melts in your mouth and tastes of real pineapple not pineapple jam from a jar that I have come across. The pastry dough in Mak Long's pineapple tart is really soft and crumbles in your mouth. Ahh..can't wait! Ordered 200 pieces so that will keep my tummy happy.
