Lazy in Langkawi

We went to Langkawi from 26th October to 1st November for 6 fabulous days of being lazy, sleep-ins and lots of eating. It was also our 6th anniversary. The first 2 days we did nothing but eat and sleep. On the third day we panicked as we realized we only had 3 days left so we crammed 4 activities in one day; horse-riding, wildlife park, snake farm (forgettable) and Temurun water fall (unforgettable). We hired a Mazda Premacy on the 1st day but it made creaky noises when negotiating corners so we asked for an upgrade to a Nissan X-Trail the next day. However, it turned out to be a fuel-guzzler. I reckon it cost us around RM150 plus but Reza reckoned we drove 2 twice a day and that the hotel was far from town.

We stayed at The Andaman. It has seen better days, sort of like a fading beauty queen.

Good points:

- Our room was on the ground level right next to the jungle

- The staff were nice and friendly

- Sarah loved the Kids Club where she spent most of the time when she was not at the pool

- The games/reading room had a good selection of books. Read one and nicked one (sshh...don't tell!)

- Nice beach with powdery sand

- No crowds in the hotel, pool or the beach

- Towel change twice a day (yay!)

Bad points:

- The menu in the main restaurant was poor overall; bland, limp looking salads, tough steaks. It was catered more for Mat Salehs (lots of them around)

- A non-halal Japanese restaurant which we found out when wanted to order Sarah her unadon and miso soup. Apparently, all the soya sauce and marinades have alcohol. We high-tailed it out of there and headed to our favourite haunt, Coco Beach (some say it is a tourist-trap but we love it)

- We mentioned our anniversary was on the 26th (the day we checked-in) and they gave us a standard chocolate moist cake on the 27th. So much for detail

Reza could not get enough of Laksa Power © at Padang Matsirat near the airport. They sell laksa, mee rebus, cendol and rojak buah from the back of a van. So almost everyday he needed to have his fix of laksa and mee rebus near the landing strip with the sea breeze gently blowing...mengada! Have tasted better ones in KL.

For lunch, we would drive round the island to look for nasi campur stalls in the kampungs. I would holler 'Bookmark! Bookmark!' as we passed yet another nasi campur joint knowing that there was just never enough time. I loved the ikan masak pindangs and singangs, gulai jantung pisang and the nasi lemak Langkawi where the rice is like nasi minyak and not cooked with coconut milk. Had to eat more ulam and sayur to counter the cholesterol.

All in all, we had a great time and plan to go back for Sarah's 4th birthday next March.
